About Travel to Ipoh
Ipoh has lots of points of interest for visitors and we recommend spending two full days in the city to take in all it has to offer. On your first day we suggest that you visit the many attractions in the old town area of Ipoh to the east of the railway station. Ipoh has an interesting history dating back to the later part of the 19th Century when it emerged as a prosperous centre for tin mining. The tin mining industry attracted lots of migrant workers and business people from China, India and Europe, as well as significant investment in public buildings from the British colonial government. Ipoh has an organised walking route, the Ipoh Heritage Trail, which takes visitors around 27 heritage sites mostly inside the old town area. In the old town you should also check the city’s dynamic street art scene, particularly the 8 walls mural created by Ernest Zacharevic in 2014 as well as later murals by local artists.

On day 2 of your stay in Ipoh we recommend that you hire a car, or a taxi, to take you around the surrounding countryside. The hills around Ipoh feature many caves. Chinese Buddhists has built temples in a number of these caves. The most interest three of those cave temples are Ling Sen Tong , Sam Poh Tong, and Nam Thean Tong. Also worth visiting is Gua Tempurung, which is a large cave made partially accessible with walkways and lighting, and Gua Tambun, which is a cave with 3,000 year old paintings.
