About Travel to Johor Bahru
Johor Bahru is a large city located at the far southern tip of the Malay peninsula which travellers need to pass through to complete the overland journey to Singapore.
Staying Overnight in Johor Bahru
Johor Bahru itself attracts very few leisure travellers. The city doesn’t have the same level of tourist attractions as Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, or Ipoh. It also has a reputation for being more dangerous than other large cities in Malaysia and much more dangerous than Singapore. Nonetheless, Johor Bahru has all the facilities you might expect to find in a city with not far from 1 million residents such as shopping mall, cinemas, and plenty of restaurants.
The number of tourist hotels, guesthouses, and hostels (around 80) in Johor Bahru is fairly small for a city of its size. Per night a room at Johor Bahru’s top hotel, the Sheraton Johor Bahru, costs from RM500. More modest private rooms start at RM70 a night. Mid-range hotels charge in the region of RM200 to RM300 per night.

Places to Visit in Johor Bahru
The most popular tourist attraction in, or near, Johor Bahru is Legoland Malaysia. Legoland Malaysia is located 23 km by road to the south east of JB Sentral Station, and it’s easy to reach by public transport on one of the frequent bus services departing from outside the train station. Legoland Malaysia has over 40 attractions and rides, a waterpark, several restaurants, and a hotel.
In Johor Bahru City itself there are a few places of interest to visit, but not that many. At the moment the most impressive building to visit in Johor Bahru is the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque. Johor Bahru’s other large and impressive building, the Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Palace Museum, has been closed for renovation for a number of years now and it’s uncertain when it will actually reopen.
Nonetheless, for visitors willing to explore the city centre it does have some interesting cultural attractions such as Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum, Johor Bahru Kwong Siew Heritage Gallery, and Johor Bahru Art Gallery.
