About Travel to Ipoh
Travel by train is the most convenient way to travel to Ipoh for sightseeing. Not only is travel by train the fastest form of public transport, Ipoh Railway Station is only 350 metres walking distance ffrom the Birch Memorial Clock Tower in the centre of Ipoh’s Old Town area. By way of contrast, Ipoh’s main long distance bus station is located 10 km by road to the north of the Ipoh Old Town. Being able to walk from the train station to the hotels, bars and restaurants of Ipoh Old Town saves visitors the expense and effort of needing to find a taxi.

There are plenty of places to visit in Ipoh both in the Old Town and in the hills surrounding the city. Ipoh has a rich history going back to the midddle of the 19th Century with the start of commercial mining of tin ore in the area. As well as attracting lots of immigrant workers from India and China, the British colonial government invested heavily in the local infrastructure and public buildings.
The easiest way to see the main historic sites in Ipoh is to follow the Ipoh Heritage Trail. The Ipoh Heritage Trail is a walking route that passes 27 points of interest. The walk takes less than 2 hours at a slow pace. The Ipoh Heritage Trail also goes past, or near, all 8 of the wall murals created by artist Ernest Zacharevic in 2014. Since 2014 other street artists have been inspired to create more great pictures on wall and the best of these are also located in Ipoh Old Town.
