Padang Besar is a small town split into two parts by the international border between Malaysia and Thailand. Both parts of Padang Besar each have their own Padang Besar Railway Station. Malaysian railway services travel no further than the large Padang Besar Railway Station which is in Malaysia. The Padang Besar Railway Station in Thailand is much smaller with fewer facilities.

Padang Besar Railway Station in Malaysia is the only interchange station between Thai and Malay Railway Services. The railway line on the east coast of peninsula Malaysia stops short of the southern most end of Thailand’s Southern Railway Line in Sungai Kolok.
