About Travel to Ipoh

Ipoh is a popular destination for both foreign and Malay tourists. The city’s tourist attraction fall into two groups: those within the historic city centre, and those in the surrounding countryside. Ideally visitors should to stay at least 2 days in Ipoh, with transport organised for one of those 2 days to explore the out of town attractions. For visitors with only 1 day to spare, or perhaps only half a day as a stopover on route to somewhere else. we recommend visiting the city centre.

Ipoh city centre has some fantastic building dating back the late 19th Century and early 20th Century when Ipoh was an important and prosperous outpost of the British Empire. During that period the area surounding Ipoh was a major centre for the mining of tin ore, which attracted investment from the British colonial government in public buildings such as the impressive railway station and nearby town hall. Immigrants, particularly from China and India, also came in large number looking for work and business opportunities and they built large parts of the city in a style reminiscent of their home countries. Visitors can easily walk around the compact old quarter of the city and see these old buildings, many of which have been well preserved, as well as enjoy the fantiastic street art which has been installed in the cty centre over the last 10 years.
