About Travel to Jerantut

Jerantut is a small town in a remote location in the interior of the central part of the Malay peninsula with few points of interest for visitors. The main reason why leisure travellers come to Jerantut is to travel to the Taman Negara, which is the name generally used to refer to the Kuala Tahan National Park.

Staying in Jerantut

Not so many people travelling to the Taman Negara choose to stay overnight in Jerantut. Kuala Tahan, which is the village by the entrance to the national park, is a better place to stay.

Jerantut has plenty of restaurants, no bars, and a limited range of hotels. One of the best hotels in the town, the 3 star Hotel Darulmakmur, is a 300 metre walk south from Jerantut Train Station. For alcoholic drinks try any of the Chinese restaurants in the town centre.

Travel from Jerantut to Taman Negara

There are two ways to travel from Jerantut to the Kuala Tahan, which is on the other side of the Templing River to the entrance to the Kuala Tahan National Park.

• Bus: Public bus services to Kuala Tahan depart from Stesen Bas Jerantut, which is 500 metres walking distance to the north of Jerantut Train Station. The frequency of these bus services varies throughout the year. During the tourist season there is generally a service departing at 08:00 and another at 13:00 every day. The journey takes about 90 minutes.
• Boat: A more exciting, but slower way, to travel from Jerantut to Kuala Tahan is to take a boat. Boat services to Kuala Tahan depart from Kuala Tembeling, which is 18 km from Jerantut Railway Station. Boat services only run at certain times of the year so we recommend enquiring locally about the boat before you make the long journey by taxi to the boat pier in Kuala Tembeling. If the boats are running then they normally depart at 09:00 and 14:00, and take 2 hours 30 minutes to reach Kuala Tahan.
