Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur
The Batu Caves, located 15.1 km by road to the north of Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station, is major tourist attraction as well as a place of worship. The caves were transformed into a Hindu place of worship in 1890 by wealthy immigrants from India. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu God of War, Lord Murugan. A 42.7 metre tall statue of Lord Murugan, covered in gold paint, is located near the entrance to temple in front of the 272 steps leading up to the Batu Caves.

The large staircase leads up to the largest of the caves known as both Temple Cave and Cathedral Cave. There are numerous shrines within this large cave. There is also a large opening in the roof of the cave through which you can see the trees above. In addition to this large cave there are two smaller caves near the base of the hill, both containing shrines and paintings. Admission to the Batu Caves is free. The easiest way to travel to the Batu Caves is to take a train from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station. Trains depart every 30 minutes from platform 3 and take 28 minutes to reach the Batu Caves.
