Travel from Padang Besar


There are two ways to travel from Padang Besar Railway Station into Thailand. The first option is to arrive at Padang Besar in time to take Thai Train #46 which departs from Padang at 18:00 Malaysian time (17:00 Thailand time) and is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok at 10:10 the following day. If you plan to take this train make sure you allow 45 minutes to pass through the two sets of immigration controls in Padang Besar train station before you board the train to Bangkok. Because there is only a single direct train service from Padang Besar Railway Station onto Thailand per day we recommend booking your tickets in advance particularly if would like to book a sleeper berth.

The second way to travel from Padang Besar Railway Station into Thailand is take a taxi or motorbike taxi to the road border with Thailand. The standard price for the 6.4 km journey from the railway station to the border is 20 MYR for a taxi and 10 MYR for a motorbike taxi. After crossing over the border into Thailand you arrive into the Thai side of Padang Besar town. The easiest way to travel onward from Padang Besar is take a motorbike taxi (40 THB) to the local minivan station. By minivan it takes then 50 minutes and costs 50 THB per person to travel to Hat Yai Bus Station. From Hat Yai there are a range of bus, train and minivan services to destinations across Southern and Central Thailand.
