There are two ways to travel from Buterworth Railway Station to Penang Island: you can take a ferry to Georgetown or you can either of the two bridges which connect Penang to the mainland.

The ferry port is a short walk from Butterworth Railway Station. There are signs showing the way so it is easy to find. Ferry services to Georgetown in Penang every 20 to 30 minutes from 05.20 to 10.00. The adult one way fare is 1.20 RM and for children it is 0.6 RM. The crossing takes about 15 minutes. Alternatively, if you arrive late in the evening or you have lots of luggage then take a taxi. Travelling via the closest bridge (the Penang Bridge) you can reach Georgetown is around 27 minutes (a journey of 24.6 km to the Komtar Tower). Agree the price with the taxi driver in advance.
