Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is a great value for money hotel in the heritage zone of George Town on Penang Island. This is our ‘go to’ hotel when we stay in Penang.
About Armenian Street Heritage Hotel
The nearest train station to Penang Island is Butterworth Railway Station. It is easy and fairly quick to travel from Butterworth Railway Station if you take the car ferry to Penang. The ferry terminal is a short walk from the railway station, although because of building works being undertaken at the moment (2018) to the nearby Butterworth Bus Terminal there is currently a free shuttle bus service from the temporary bus station right in front of Butterworth Railway Station which takes you to the ferry terminal. You buy your ferry tickets to Penang Island as you board the ferry. The fare is 1.20 MYR per adult and 0.60 MYR for children.

Ferries run every 20 minutes throughout the day and take around 15 minutes to complete the crossing. The ferry arrives at Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal. Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal is located on the main road which runs along the seafront in George Town. From the ferry terminal its then a 1.2 km walk to the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel, which takes 15 minutes. There are plenty of taxis around if that’s too far for you to walk. If you are able to walk that distance then the route is very easy to follow: turn left along the seafront road until you reach Chew Jetty and then cross over the road and turn right into Armenian Street. The Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is at the very top end of Armenian Street where it is meets Canarvon Street. From the point you alight from your train at Butterworth Railway Station it normally takes around 45 minutes to reach this hotel if you travel by ferry and then walk.
Service at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel
The Armenian Street Hotel Hotel is operated by a large hotel group and the service is professional, although a little impersonal if you are used to staying in places run directly by the person who owns it. The reception staff are efficient, polite and speak a variety of languages. You get what you pay for at this hotel and guests who expect the reception staff to organise anything beyond a fully functional hotel room will be a little bit disappointed. They are not particularly helpful in relation to assistance with queries relating to sight-seeing and that type of thing, but they are good at checking people in and sorting out issues with the room.

The hotel has a roof top observation area, a cafe, a convenience store and a tour booking desk. They serve breakfast and other meals in the cafe at moderately expensive prices. When we stay we purchase drinks from the convenience store (which sells alcoholic drinks, as well as snacks and soft drinks) but we never go the cafe. There are some great places to eat in George Town a very short walk away from the hotel which are better value for money.
Rooms at Armenian Street Heritage Hotel
The rooms at the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel are really good, particularly considered that the prices are relatively cheap for this part of George Town. We normally book a double room which is the cheapest option. There are family rooms available as well with cute bunk beds for children in the style of racing cars. The rooms are tastefully decorated with lightly coloured linens and wooden floors. The bathrooms are small but nicely decorated with brickwork style white tiling, white porcelain sink and shower base, and chrome fittings. There are flat screen TVs with English language satellite channels and tea/coffee making facilities. The rooms also have small fridges. The Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is a comfortable place to stay.

You will normally a get a better price on rooms at the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel if you book online with Booking.com using the Search Box below. It will cost you more if you walk in and book a room.
Breakfast is not included in the room price, nor tourist tax of 10 MYR, nor city tax of 2 MYR, both of which you need to pay when you check in at the hotel reception.
